Zak Black
Political Theorist at the University of Toronto

Welcome! I'm a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Theory at the University of Toronto. My scholarship has appeared in Political TheoryThe Review of Politics, and The Political Science Reviewer.

My research centres around early modern political thought, and especially the writings of François Rabelais, Michel de Montaigne, and Thomas Hobbes. My dissertation recovers the 'mundane perspectives' that Rabelais, Montaigne, and Hobbes bring to bear on political life, and theorizes the contemporary applicability of such a perspective.

Thematically, my research interests include republican and monarchical political thought, political rhetoric, the relationship between philosophy and literature, and early modern reception of ancient political thought.
